I'v got a T plate corsa b 1.0 and the last few weeks the engine has become alot louder. It all seems to be fine until the engine tempressure is reached. this is when it is realy noticable on tick over as it now sounds like a desiel! it never did sound that smooth but i always put it down to being a 3 cylinder, i had heard quite a few 1.0 corsa's and they sounded exacually the same as mine did. At the same time as it has been sounding like a desiel on tick over it has seemed to gained another problem. When on tick over and while pulling away sometimes the rev's will completely drop, almost causing the car to stool! Iv just arived home from the vauxhall garage and they said the noice was the timming belt and they quoted me around £500 for it to be changed inc labour. Alternitavly the technican said that they could change oil and oil filter and run an engine flush through which would clean the chain but aparently this has never been to sucessfull in curing the problem! has anyone else had the same problem???

thanks,
rob

Is it just me, or do 1.0l sound like a lawnmower in the lower revs?

My 1l sounds a little like a desil as well, well i say it little it sounds exactly like a desil

I know what you mean. When i pull away sometimes it feels like the revs suddenly drop sometimes, as if the breaks are sticking or something. I always put it down to me though, maybe i was taking some pressure off the accelerator and not really noticing it.

When sitting idel mine will sometimes shake pretty bad. I don't know why that is, it's as if it's idleing at revs which are too low. I can check how many revs it is though, beacuse i don't have a rev counter.

usually around that stage, the tensioner on the chain starts to slightly give way, causing more flex in the chain,. therby u get the rattling sound. i'd advise a thorough engine flush followed by oil + filter change, thicker oil might help, then again might not. if it doesnt help, full timing chain kit with new tensioner, guides + timing case gasket. should sort it a treat!

my 1.0 was awful, used to idle at like 500rpm most of the time and sounded like it was going to conk out if i didnt rev it. Fucking annoying when people tell you that the problem is its 3 cylinder, as I was a student at the time and even that car cost me 1680 quid to insure TPFT! I would advise you replace the timing chain though mate along with the tensioner.
