After my last MOT my car had done 28,000 miles.

I was advised on my invoice to have my cambelt changed at 30,000.

The thing is its a 1.2 16v engine and those are chain driven... have vauxhall just printed the standard info on the invoice without seeing if its got a chain or a belt?

How many miles should a chain be good for? The life of the engine?

yes thats right, timing chain changes are at 80k miles. Eventually all Corsa engines, incl Diesels will be chain driven.

Vauxhall are making all their engines cahin driven cos they are notorious for having cam belt problems. a cam belted corsa should have the belt changed every 37k. where as the newer chain driven corsas should have them changed every 80k.

Ahh right so it does need changing eventually. I was under the assuption it never needed changing. So the engine knocks a lot when its worn? My car has done 50K miles, seems ok still but I tend to get a gargling (pinking??) noise when I accelerate hard between 2.5K and 4K rpm? Its been doing it for approx 7 months now... How much is it to get the chain changed then, not from Vaux but a reasonable garage? I may aswell chuch the lump away at 65/70K and plumb in the 2.0XE he he
