my car is SORN'd at the moment but it need some bodywork doing in order for it to be back on the road. am i allowed to drive it to and from a local bodyshop in order to get it sorted?

No.

SORN'd means that the vehicle is not taxed and won't be used on the road until further notice. You could drive it, but is it worth the risk?

i thought that, but went i went to the bodyshop yesterday (on foot) there was a smart ass kid there who said he worked in the car industry and he started blabbing on about how u could drive your car in order for it to get fixed

sounded a bit dodgy so thought i'd ask

you are only alowed to drive it if you are taking it for an MOT. your best bet, as mentioned.
