seriously? 230? who would do the work, would the supply the bits? would it be a rebuit engine too? 1k for rebuilt engine to standard spec, 1k-2k for management, say 300-400 for cams.... would need pocketed pistons, so 150 for standard pistons to be pocketed? tb's, 1k, so yeah supose your right, will they push 230bhp on standard internals and be reliable?

bits are not more expensive for a 2.0

so if all of you work is possible for 5k.... why not on a c20xe

1-2k for management whet!!!

paying shelf prices...

pistons - 480
cams - 400
arps - 70
verniers - 80
TB's with management - 1400

Why rebuild an engine if its not needed?!

its yet another 2.0xe vs 1.6xe thread

right, heres my opinion. having owned a 2 litre corsa and a tuned 1.6 even though the 1.6 cost a squillion times more to build I wouldnt ever try and compare the two. the following points are the reasons why:

1. noise of tb's on the 1.6 is lovely
2. handling
3. throttle response
4. reliability
5. its different
6. faster than the 2 litre on the road.
7. did I mention the noise?

eh....

this is TB'd c20xe and TB'd 16xe though...

Noise - i think a 20xe with tb's is better.
handling - down to the driver. A lot of folk will kid themselves that they can do x y z... all reality is you prob just have to drive the 20xe corsa differently than a 16xe. In the right hands a corsa with 20xe handles. fact
throttle response.... why on earth is that better with a 16xe?
reliability - if both are equally well built, they are as reliable as the other.
faster on the road - rubbish.

i was asking Q's about a specific car, not saying x is faster than y and always will be. You turned this into the argument you were arguing against

sorry, thought we were comparing a standard 20xe against the tb'd 1.6

My c16xe corsa a, runs 13.8 on the 1/4 mile, a similarly tuned 20xe would beat it tho. I built mine for the track hence why i chose the 16xe, if you want fast on a 1/4 mile i'd suggest Nitrous and or turbo

P.S. Can't wait to see brosters at llandow

Been a valver lover

1. the noise of a c20xe roaring threw a power cap is AMAZING and far cheaper
2.No problem if the conversion is done correctly with uprated antiroll bars strut braces and coilovers
3. You cant tell me that a c20xe isnt a very responsive and torquey engine
4. my friend ran his on carbs and raced it every month at york for 3 years and it NEVER let him down also the x16xe are known for been weak engines
5. yer really diffrent they didnt come out the factory with those engines in
6.that must be in 1st, 2nd and 3rd when there spinning is it ha ha
7.yer you did

1. the noise of a c20xe is nothing compared to any engine on tb's.
2 the handling with a heavier engine wont be as good as a light one.
3 a standard c20xe is nowhere near as responsive as any tb'd engine, ever.
4. the x16xe a weak engine? whatever
5. how many 2 litre corsas do you see? how many tb'd 1.6's?
6. my 1.6 is a lot quicker on the road than a 2 litre corsa. ive got vids to prove

This argument will go on forever and even then most people that comment on it have never been in, 0wned or let alone seen a properly tuned 1.6 corsa. they just read things on websites and believe it.

im saying i paid 5k for all the work to be done by a tuners, paying full price for parts.

if you can get tbs and management fitted for 1400 then ill have 12 sets now!

also i didnt need a rebuild but as the cams i wanted required pocketed pistons i may aswell have had the rebuild. i making a comparrison as to how far you would get for 5k with a c20xe in a corsa..... and one condition was the engine needed rebuilding to make it a decent comparrison to what i spent.

your not listening, rather reading, me correctly...

1400 to buy tb's management..

if YOU got all that done, and parts, for 5k.... why is it impossible for it to be done to a c20xe for the same price? Parts are not 2x more expensive for it.

would have though the price would be the same for both engines to build to the same spec personally.

Lets throw my dog into the equation

2.0
Omex ECU
TB's
exhaust
about 190 bhp

Ran a 15.01 but I fooked 3rd up a bit, can assume that I could do slightly better with an LSD & decent gear changes

Mines fairly standard, nice setup for a fast road car though as its never really let me down

Mark, wasn't your rebuild payed for by BP? So thats not included in the 5K?

depends what those bits are?!?!

220 isnt unheard of.... but you are starting to look at uprated valve train with cams profiles needed to achieve this.

My setup - should be making 230'ish (not 185 on 3 and a bit pistons ) its had a bit more than 5k spent on the engine though, but could have been done alot cheaper looking back.

800 for 2.1 engine with worked costcat head (needed one new piston and 4 rings ) - so say 1000 (sold cams out of it for 250) - so 750
Got my TB kit for 700 (including cams) (sold cams for 200) - so 500
spent about 900 on valve train shite (springs, caps, seats, verniers, cams) - 900
arp rod and head studs - dunno 150

then fitting/mapping etc.... so not mega expensive to BUILD the spec on paper (2300)

the rest was spend on more shite like clutches, diffs, flywheels
sold cams

'ENGINE' spec

'was' SBD 88mm pistons (now gone to 79's on new block'
cometic metal HG
SBD 284 cams
SBD Verniers
SBD valve springs/caps/seats
ARP head studs
ARP rod bolts
machined crank
QED DTH TB's (dis pack, fule rail etc)
flowed/ported coscat heeed
