I have a problem with my xe corsa, it wont change gear properly, or select reverse at a standstill. AFAIK this indicated that the clutch isnt releasing properly, ie the input shaft is being driven slightly even with the clutch depressed.

With this in mind I figured the pressure plate might be sticking on the input shaft, so I set about stripping it down so i could slide the input shaft in and out. The input shaft was very tight, and would only move about 10mm, but I got it to where I could slide it easily for about 3mm and it seemed to slide thru the pressure plate easily, so I reassembled it.

The problem is still there, but now the pressure plate cant be the problem surely?

How tight should the input shaft be? (Ive done one in an old f10 before and it was easily pulled out right to the stop, a couple of inches of more.)

What else could be stopping the input shaft from moving? Could this perhaps be contribulting to the problem?

Cheers

f16/f20 input shafts can be silly tight, mine was actually bent

my fooked gearshift/clutch turned out to be the clutch arm, apparently they go dodgy. I had maximum adjustment on the cable and the clutch still dragged like a biatch

so do the arms bend? Or is it something within the box after the external arm?

the spline sliding has buggar all to do with it.

Its the clamping pressure of the pressure plate pressing the drive plate up against the flywheel which creates the drive!
The pressure plate isnt releasing the drive plate enough! just put a new clutch in it!

its not driving much, just not quite releasing fully.

If you look in the inspection cover the clutch and release bearing appear to be operating normally.

It just drags a little because th friction plate cant come clear of the flywheel, either because its gummed up with shit on the splines or the clutch is fucked.

What would go wrong with the clutch to make it behave like this, and how much is a new clutch?

got the input shaft pulled back and it slides freely thru the box and locates in the splines in the friction plate.

It wot slide thru the friction plate tho, you have to punch it in and remove it again with a puller.

Is there anything else that can be amiss apart from it being gummed up with shite??
