started it up saturday, all fine, was a warm say so it was near the 100oC mark for a hour or so whilst drivin around.

When pulling off, it felt flat, so i just thought it was the filter sucking in hot air, but it carried on 2 get worse. I got 2 a junction wich was slighty up hill, went 2 put my foot down and it would take ages 2 rev up 2-3k, once it got to 3k or so, u let the clutch and it would die back down. So i pulled over, EML light came on so i turned it off, smoke coming out of the bonnet. left it for 10-15mins, started it and its now ticking over at 125rpm sounding like a chopper, wont even rev up.

Please help

X16XE btw. ERG valver was replaced 2k ago

what colour was the smoke? white would indicate steam/water evaporation, black would suggest something has caught fire or oil...
the smoke thing sounds worrying. get it on tech2 to find out what EML codes are coming up...

You were driving about for an hour with it at 100 degrees and you wonder why it broke It will be the head gasket and a warped head.

it was working, but as soon as it had cooled the engine, it went bk up 100oC again within a couple of minutes, because it was like 27+oC outside, and i was stood in traffic alot of the time.

Did you fix the X16XE or just dump it for a replacement engine? Mines doing similar (X14XE) but if you hold the accelerator for a few seconds it gains momentum again. Just about to check the following ECU Codes which I got after the paper clip test.
0110
0230
105

Let me know how ya get on.

Cheers

Na, i fixed it mate, just needed a bottom pullie and cam pullie, and timing back up again. As i say, tech2 is throwing up the cam shaft sensor. Took it out today and cleaned it but its still the same.

The fan kicks in at about 95, the engine isn't designed to run at 100, if it gets to 100 then there is a serious problem!
