This weekend im going go look at a 2.0 corsa.

Need a bit of help with what to check, common problems etc. Not so much with the car itself, as Ive been a corsa owner for 2 years so fairly confident when looking round the car itself. Just engine/gearbox/drivetrain, I could do with a few pointers.

Cheers

Check if the mileage is genuine and all that, as the car might have only done 50k but the engine could have done 150k

one thing would be how tidy or not it has been fitted. not as serious as some of the thing the lads will list but IMO if it looks really messy might have been a quick job with corners cut.

Yes check to see the engine temp before you strike it up. Or ask him not to start it, say2-3hours before you get there if poss. That way the engine is cold and you'll more than likely otice the tapping if there is any. Mine tapped for 2-3mins, then cleared.

Look for smoking on tick over, mine didnt....but it was burning oil like no mans business.......the piston rings had shot.

You couldn't really see smoke, unless it was night time and i had a car behind me, then i saw it. He might not appreciate you giving it a clean out but how else do you tell.......

Just general tidyness as well, i;m sure you will be able to tell if its been a rushed job.

I'm picking my valver engine up this weekend, yipeee! I want a turbo but my bank balance says NO!

it is important to check after how well engine works the sunspecion. make sure that the springs are the right size for the engine which will weigh more. I have a friend who bought a petrol mercedes, but will a larger weight diesel engine, car drive very poor, and wings were damaged by tyre, also the revolution counter does not works
