take off your air filter and start from cold one morning and see if it still does it. mine did somethind similar, and i think it was the shite PiperX filter i had and i think because the air is denser in winter it wasnt allowing it to filter through properly.
give it a go see what happens

Is it a dizzy XE? My engine burbles first thing, believe its moisture in the electrics, soon goes once its been on and warmed up for a min.

when i described my car to sound like a scooby, the problem was, it wasnt firing on all cylinders, leads and plugs were fine, checked the dizzy and it had totally worn out, got a new one from halfrauds and sorted

my 1.4 eoctec was doing this for a while (after leaving stood for 3+ days)... actually did it up to 15 mins... real pain when trying to sell off and it doesn't go anywhere and sounds like a scooby lmao.
although when i got to about 2.5k revs it jumped into life, but then went back when dropping below this. Seams to have sorted itself though touch wood. All i did was spray dizzy cap with wd40 and put some more grease on battery terminals and cleaned out air box (had some water in)
