on a corsa 1.2 16 v - 2yrs old --the top of the diff case seems to get a thin coating of oil (mist). it is around the top up plug and the yellow spring loaded pin (what is this by the way?). My wifes 04 reg has the same sympton. What is the cause of this. Thanks john

the spring loaded pin is to lock the gear box in to neutral on the 1gear plane(sp) when setting up the gear linkage.
as for oil on the casing, i have shed loads of oil on there, i wouldnt worry about it if both cars are the same.

The gearbox probably has too much oil in it. Most of the top up plugs have a breathable cap so oil can piss out of it if it overplows. Shouldn't be much of a problem if it's only a thin mist.
