i think they are just made from a better carbide material or somat like that meaning they stand more stress and lots more heat

my arps have torex heads on them...

also have ARP wrtten across the top of them

think the alloy used to make the bolts is sronger than normal and also they relive stress points that may snap on the regular ones...

another reason why people fit them is that they dont cost THAT much more that the standard items... so why not..

here they are...

I just used a normal socket bit on mine, they have a different side profile on them too aswell as the ARP stamped on them and a dimple in the top of them.

As for using them, I knwo ppl who have used std bolts on engine running to 8k on track all the time with no porblems, but woudl you want thigns to go worng?

Oh and you ened to chamfeur the Big end caps too.

You'll get the best fit on ARP's from a imperial socket, i forget the size.

Good luck to your mate James, they may never snap, they may snap tomorrow. Depends on the quality of the standard items and a whole lot of luck whether they will fail or not. I'd rather have the piece of mind for the sake of £60 odd.
