Driven nicely, 350 miles to 45 litres (full tank) or 35mpg.
I average about 30/32 mpg.

Yes, it helps me determine the current state of the engine.

Assuming that's about 24 litres, then it's approx 32mpg.

I get roughly 100 miles to a tenner, and the insurance group is usually 14 about the same as the 106

Make sure the hubs and shafts etc have been beefed up as some/most just go the GSI shafts route....

Brakes - 256mm x 24mm min i wud say...

Sus - coilovers?? Should get away with shocks and springs -40/60mm

Aside from the general condition of the engine...

Make sure all the electrics are fine, speedo is working, gears are selecting nicely, no nasty sounding noises, no knocking, no oil leaks.
Try and start the car from cold, then take it out for a nice drive until it's warm.

i drove pretty much 600 mile round trip last thursday. petrol light on before set off, went to garage. £30 In the tank half way back, put another 15 quid in and got home petrol light came on about a day later. so 600 mile for 45 quid. engine runs really well in my corsa, fair economical

yep, i bought a whole calibra off a mates old man so i knew it had literally done 120k's worth of pretty much motorway driving. really believed until i test drove the cally, the accelerator had never been right down. full service history from local garages.

if i had just bought an engine, never seen it running or nothing, id pretty much be sure to give it new bearings and gasketts for the sake of what? 200 quid? then id be happy with it
