Well despite what a lot of people say ported is better than sealed, but only if you do it right. Do it wrong/cut any corners and it will sound pants. if you are running a 12 then probably one 3" port will do. The idea of the port is that the diameter of it and the length of the tube provides the resistance to the airflow which stops your sub sounding like a wet fart. Longer tube length causes more resistance to the air, hence it has to move slower to escape, hence tunes the port to lower notes. A good example is the vibe CBR12 boxes, they have very short ports making them very droney and they humm very loud at mid bass, but dont really play the lows.
