this shud help, i asked Joff about flatspots .etc as he works for a Pipercross and this was the reply i got, shud help u out as for the kit, its personal choice really as to what u like....

When you change the amount of air or fuel, the ECU has to work out what's best to do to keep the engine running nicely.
Disconnect your battery for half an hour or so to try and force the ECU to reset itself.
With a panel filter, you'll find the car more hesitant and less happy to rev. Sort a decent cold air feed - I'd happily have an induction kit over a panel and hot air isn't the major problem people harp on about. I proved this by running a number of different filters last summer, from the Viper down to a panel in a modified air box. The best really was the Viper but very close second was a normal induction kit!
