I was driving on a dual carriage way (going exactly 70 mph!) and i noticed the temp gage going just over 100 C. I thought this to be quite wierd as it normally hovers around 90. I thought nothing of it until i came up to a round about, this time dropped to about 60 mph and trying to slow down. i was pretty much shitting my self when i found out the brakes weren't working. this was made even worse by the fact that my friends 8 year old brother was in the passenger seat thinking it was cool that i couldnt stop!

Luckily nothing was coming so i tore onto the roundabout at about 45mph, gripping the handbrake just incase.

I pulled up on the slip road off the roundabout and could smell burning. it was like the smell of a burnt out clutch. my friend, who was behind, said she could smell really strong burning smell and had to shut her vents. no smoke though.

It hasnt happened again since. i was just wondering if anyone has had this problem and if its something that can be sorted easily enough

Sounds like worn brake discs/pads to me. Do you brake hard ussually coming up to roundabouts?

did your brake pedal drop to the floor when u pressed it? or was it a lot lighter than usual? maybe as drysdale said its something to do with the pads and one or some of them binded on this would explain the smell,ie burning the pad as you drove, and the lack of brakes as it may have overheated the fluid in the cylinder and caused the brakes to fade to nothing, i had this on my old Renault 5.

Doesnt really explai the overheating of engine though i suppsoe, maybe it was somethin to do with sevo? justing guessing on that bit though
