Some1 will answer your question exactly in a min cos alot of lads on here really no there stuff but I think the difference is the power u wil get from your amp.
Eg. If your amp is running at 2ohms it wil produce more power than at 4ohms (bearing in mind not all amps r 2 ohm stable). So i understand it as meaning you buy the sub with the ohms related to your system!!! lik i said some1 wil tell u beter than this soon, lol

DC's right you know. if you go for a 2ohm it will have a slight power advantage over a 4ohm..

right lol, go on the JL audio site and click tutorials..www.jlaudio.com, but from what i read, it is to do with power....if u buy a dual 4 ohm , wire in series u will show 8ohm impedence, if uwire in paralell, it will show the amp 2ohm..so will run higher...ie JL audio JLE1200 will run 1x120rms at 4 ohm, and 1x200rms at 2 ohm.....with a dueal 2 ohm, u can show the amp a 4 ohm load or a 1 ohm load..am i right?..dont take my word for it

When the impedance is lower there is less resistance in the circuit therefore allowing the amp to put out more power, as long as it can do so.
There is an example on Speaker Impedence in the tutorial section under In car entertainment

dual 2 ohm can be wired so the amp sees 1 ohm or 4ohm, and dual 4ohm can be be done for 2ohm and 8ohm applications....
ohm s is about resistance as stated above  so the lower the figure the more power an amp will produce......
however the amp needs to be stable at the given resistance - most are usually stable at 2ohms so the dual 4ohm sub is popular

BUT most monoblocks are designed to run at 1 ohm of left so the dual 2 ohm would be even more popular

yer but a lot of amateur ppl use 2ch amps or 4 ch amps for their budget systems
