i have a 12" kenwood subwoofer in a ported box.
i want to sink it into the spare wheel well
i know id lose the spare and that metal bracket

but how do i do this what materials do i need?

do i get fibreglass and run it round the inside then bolt a pice of mdf to that then put the sub into that?

peronsally i would make a square sub box the right dimensions for you sub and then put it in the well

er snapped the bracket
and the sub box dont fit
so im thinking of making a round sub box
mdf top and bottom
and fibre glass side
just thinking of how to do it

I would say use resin first, tis strong as fek, then fibreglass to get a smooth finish on the box.

cheers was thinking make the boxx then mesh round it fibre glass it then cover it
but if the resin on a t shirt is as strong ill do that

for sub box i wudnt use t-shirt use fleece, u'll get it in curtain /dressmakers shops for 5-8quid a metre, its like a big sponge an will take loadsa resin makin it much stronger

u cud jump on it wi a sledge hammer!!

have you tried putting a metal plate over the well cutting a 11" round hole and making a ported box fittin it to the bottom of the metal plate, drop it in cut some fabric to line your boot???? thats what i would do

i wish i'd used it for mine, cos it weighs a ton, might consider redoin it at a later stage if i decide to hold onto the motor

Adam its easy.

1. smear releasing agent and/or masking tape all over the inside of the wheel well.

2. coat the ENTIRE well in fiberglass

3. pull out the fiberglass mould of the well and add more fiberglass to the inside of the mould if you want to make it stronger.

4. cut yourself a MDF top with the hole cutout for the sub.

5. fiberglass the MDF top to the fiberglass well mould and ensure that it is very strong and ridgid and sealed.

6. drill a small hole OR mount a terminal binding post into the MDF lid to allow you to wire up the sub.

7. screw the sub into place and ensure it is well sealed by pushing on the cone, seal any leaks from the inside using either more resin/fiberglass or silicone.

8. Trim the MDF top in your choice of fabric or resin it and paint it.
