I dont think i get flames, although if you wanted them you could make it overfuel...

It doesn't whine, it screams

The only way to spit otu flames is to massively overfuel, or buy a flame kit.

Why the hell do you want flames out the back anyway?

I'm running TBs on a 1.6; the engine makes over 215bhp. If the engine is mapped properly, then cruising at part throttle doesn't use significantly more fuel than a standard engine. People who say that TBs drink fuel obviously haven't had the engine set up properly. Obviously, when you start flooring it, you use a lot more fuel, but then you don't get 215bhp out of fresh air...

I have been told by people following me that there's occasionally a blue flame visible IN the exhaust (not spitting out of it) when I come off the throttle. This is probably due the wild cams I am using, which have a large overlap, allowing some unburnt fuel to pass from the inlet vlaves to the exhaust valves, especially at lower revs.

Yes, about £5k for an engine spec like that. Miles - haven't done any quarters with the new gearbox in, but hoping for very low 14s

What new gearbox is that? What did you do with the old gearbox? And what was it?

I did a 14.065 yesterday

How many miles have you done it with the new engine? (Andy)
Head Work?
Is it reliable at that level of power?
Who has fitted the Kit?
Cheers

Miles - new Gearbox is Quaife close ratio - top speed of 124mph at 9000rpm (but it gets there quick!). Best quarter with old F15box was 14.7 Datron GPS timed) but that was before car was fully stripped out and fitted with LSD. 14.065 is very impressive - what car is your engine sitting in?

New engine has only had about 4000miles on it, so not even fully run in yet. Yes, I had the head worked on before I upgraded the internals - definitely recommend getting the head sorted to anyone tuning a 1.6. The SBD kit was fitted and mapped by Mark Harrison at Owen Developments, Oxfordshire. Apart from a loose injector plug on cyclinder too (loosened by all the vibration ), the engine has been totally reliable.

So, Steel Crasnkshaft, pistons and rods, from SBD?
and special exhaust manifold?
Properly mapped gave 215bhp?
And what about fuel pump, and oil system mods?

Cheers

Omega forged pistons, Arrow steel rods, solid lifters, uprated valve springs and caps, SBD manifold (all from SBD), uprated fuel pressure regulator and injectors, mocal oil cooler and breather recirculation mods to stop oil collecting in the head at very high rpm.

My engine is in a 810kg nova with 16's and road tyres. I have no diff and standard f15. This is my everyday car so I aint really interested in low gearing, I had 136 on the way to pod and it was still pulling nicely, but ran out of road/girlfriend was winging.

A poor man's dry sump system Installed by Protec - uses vacuum system to suck oil out of head area to remote collection tank and then back down to sump. I'm going to take some shots of the engine bay and post some pics in the next day or two...

It was developed by ProTec in Preston (they specialise in rally Corsas and Novas). Involves welding new outlet onto rocker cover, which then feeds remote aluminium tank (sittingwhere old airbox used to sit) and then is connected to sump (again, modified with welding). Basically when excess oil is thrown up into hear at high revs/cornering, a vacuum is created in the sump, so the oil is forced back down vis the remote tank. Prob not good description, but you get the general idea. Costs about£350 for all the parts (a lot cheaper than dry sumping) and saves the crank from poss of oil starvation). http://www.pro-tecmotorsport.co.uk/

Cheers. I seem to be burning a lot of oil at high rpm, which could be down to the breather system (maybe blockage) or god forbid fubar piston rings. It was only rebuilt about 7k ago with new race spec rings so should hopefully be ok.
