I've just bought a set of new discs, calipers and pads for a 2.0 16v Astra.
They should be a straight swap for the Corsa, at least I hope they are. I might fit them this weekend but am I likely to need anything else?
I want to make 100% sure I've got everything I need before taking the old ones off.
I've got the above, plus brake fluid and some copper grease, anything else?

The copper washers sit between the nut and the brake pipe and then the brake pipe and the caliper. You will understand if you have a look at them

It was an easy job, I swapped mine on monday night, took about 30-45 mins each side but that was my first time so I was carefull I was doing things right.

Easy job to do, very straight forward, everything just fits in place of the old stuff.

Thanks for the replies people.

Makarus, do you notice any improvement in braking? I've got a 1.4 Sport and the regular brakes are very poor, I'm hoping for some improvement now. Are your brakes as firm as before or do they feel soft or spongey now?

I moved up from 1.2 8v brakes, now they are pish poor.

I noticed a big improvement in braking. The pedal has about 5 mm more play at the top, and it does feel a little soft under foot but I have now got used to it.

Braking feels much safer and smoother, definatly stop quicker also, a great little mod in my eyes and for only £30. They are most certainly better in every single area, cant fault them at all.

Were they £30 brand new or second hand from Mig etc?

Also, do you all get a Cav space saver to accommodate the bigger disks in the event of a puncture?

Is it? I've got nightmares of brake fluid flying everywhere, greasy clothes, brake dust and faulty brakes going through my head!

Where did my Haynes Manual go?!

How much woulda garage charge and how long would it take?

Also, what if the 4-stud V6 disks warp or crack etc, where do you get a replacement pair from? V-tuning?

Cheers for that.

Just had my service and was told my disks are slightly warped but within acceptable limits, but will prob fail MOT next year, so I'll be getting some V6 brakes I think

Is it an easy job for a novice? do you have th bleed the brakes or anything that may involve brake fluid goig everywhere? To get the caliper off?

its a straight swap, get a pair of molegrips for the brake hose clamp it on but just tight enough to stop fluid coming out. swap everything over , to bleed them it is easier with 2 people. get somebody to sit in car and pump the peddle till there is some feel. (take fluid reservoir cap of) keep peddle pushed down and undo the brake nipple slightly till fluid comes out, nip it back up and let peddle go back up repeat this a couple of times till all the air bubbles dissapear , when you push peddle down just do it slow and steady, then do other side and finish with topping up res.

the best way is with a pressure bleeder but not everyone has one.

I also used new caliper bolts which have threadlock already applied.

Right.......Listen......some of the above posts are completely un-calledfor v6 breaks go directly on a corsa, New discs, new pads, new calipers, new caliper mounting bolts (from vaux cos they come with locktite already on them. and some new copper banjo washers.

the job can be done by a monkey with downs syndrome.....its a peice of pish!!

handy andy hint.......to stop the break fluid pissing everywhere put some cling film over the resivoir and put the cap back on then you have a vacuum to hold the fluid in, when all back on and tight, open the resivoir and open the caliper nipple a touch and wait for some break fluid to come outthen tighten it up and put the cap back on the nipple and resivoir.........job done 20 mins each side.

The mole grip idea works but you run the chance of damging the pipe which you will regret when you are heading for a ditch on a lovely summer afternoon in the countryside.

vauxhall do cracking deals on new discs and pads if your after none grooved or drilled and the pads are quite good. new copper washers on the brake pipe should be used cuz there compression washers. you can get a preasure bleeder for about £15 from halfords and they are good. just fill with fluid, put on the brake fluid reservoir, let a tyre down to 20psi and connect to the tyre. all you do then is open the bleed nipple on the caliper and job done.
