I have just fitted a new amp to run my components and the speakers buzz at low volumes. I had an amp in before and the new one just replaced it using the same wires. Could it be that its more powerful and needs a thicker power and earth cable(currently 10awg).
I have heard about supressors are they any good if the problem doesn't go away?

try a ground loop isolator.
or check ur earths again...thats what i'd do first.
screw em down tight and make sure its bare metal and the wires are as short as possible.

av u ran the power and the speaker wires seperate? if not that can sumtimes cause a buzzing sound. it mite not be that but just got me thinkin bout what my uncle did when his were buzzin

Yes the wires are completely seperate. Listening more closely to the buzzing sound it doesn't get louder when I turn up the volume or when I rev the engine so could it be that the RCA leads need beefing up? The ones I have running at the mo' are quite thin and the amp is running 2x100wRMS. Could it be that the signal is too weak from the HU?
I have checked the grounds and they seem fine. I have used the grounds before on other amps.

If its a new new amp, take it back and swap it

either replace the amp like austin said or the speakers are under powered....what speakers are they? what amp is it?

Speakers at the mo' are 40w RMS infinity co-axials soon to be replaced by 70w RMS Phoenix Gold Octane R components. Amp is running 2x100wRMS into the infinitys just now. The amp is an Alpine T757 V12 and it was previously used to power my 400wRMS JBL power series sub.
AMP is 2x100w RMS @4ohms or
1x300w RMS @4 ohms.
Bought a new Kenwood 7201 amp to power my sub. 1x460w RMS @ 4ohms.

amp is giving too much power to the speakers, so makes the buzzing. Either get some higher rated speakers (like 100rms) or get a smaller amp.
correct me if i'm wrong please anyone

I hope that you are right and the buzzing goes away when I fit my new components. Anyway I thought it was always better to over power rather than under power speakers.

100RMS into 40RMS is stupidly daft anyway! but im not totally sure if it woild cause buzzing. Thing is if it was previously used on a sub, you would have never picked it up, meaning it could have had the problem from day one..

The gain on the amp is not turned up very much, so the speakers sound nice for what they are.

Just noticed that if I turn the gain completely down on the amp the buzzing goes away. The more I turn it up the gain the louder it gets, so if I have more powerful speakers this problem may go away, hopefully.
Anyway I'll let you know if this works when I fit my components.
