its simple physics, is like an year 7 science question, just look at it and the only reason is because its impossible to go the other way...unless u spin the shaft the opposite way, or reverse the thread on it, or u could introduce a small gear between the two sets of teeth...

by going counterclockwise you'll be forcing the gog to move graate to the left and so move the pointer to the right. hence B

you need to look at were the thread on the shalf will be when it is twisted...



whem the shalf is twisting point 2 will cause the arrow thread to move from right to left (thread at point 1) therefore causing the arrow at the botton to move to B (to the right)
