Colleague at work is in the process of splitting from his Mrs.

It's pretty amicable, but he was going to move out and leave her in the house with the 2 kids. He was the main earner and they lived a good lifestyle to be honest.

If he moved out he would still be paying the mortgage and need to pay for his new place, so not ideal, especially since he would get no help.

However, if she moves out and takes the kids, she is entitled to £1,900 in benefits and assistance.

I can't even begin to get my head around the benefits system. My mrs signed on for a few weeks recently and the hoops she had to jump through to get £70 a week were incredible.

Just how do these people manage to get so much hard cash from the benefit system? I almost have hatred and jealousy in equal measure at the thought.

Meanwhile my mother having recently recovered from cancer and shingles, working just shy of 30 hours a week has had a (pathetic) disability supplement removed. She can hardly lift a fucking tin of soup with her left arm.
