The missus is adamant that she wants laminate flooring in the lounge.

I have done the usual rounds - B&Q, Carpet Right etc. Extortionate prices as expected really. Does anyone have any recommendations for Laminate flooring? Makes, Links etc?

Will also be going for some striped carpet on the stairs and landing and redecoration whilst we're at it. Unbelievably we have been here three years this month

I've had laminate from topps tiles and b&q. The b&q stuff isn't too bad when it's on offer.

just had our lounge and dining room done, you get what you pay for. We've gone for the 11mm thick stuff with a slight bevelled edge. We got a few quotes as it needed fitting as well due to unlevel floors. Cost a small fortune but came with good guarantee.

Got mine from B&Q when on offer. Pictures and prices in my project thread.

Quality seems good and is no different a year on.

Wouldn't have it in a lounge though!

Got mine from Tops Tiles.

I can't stand the stuff!! Gets very dusty, bubbles when you clean it or spill stuff, scratches, it's noisy... It's not that cheap either.

It does last if you don't want it to stay mint. I've still got it down in my rental property 5 years on.

I did our hallway and I nearly ended up smashing.it all to bits, drove me fucking crazy, popping out every time I moved to the next bit.

Did it for the same reasons as you, to shut her up. No chance she's having the living room done though!

If you do get it, pay someone to do it!

(was mid priced from homebase)

If you're wanting a timber style finish go for either an engineered board or a Karndean equivalent, laminate is cheap and nasty.

We've got Quick-Step 950 Perspective 4 Laminate Flooring in our entrance and livingroom/dining room.
In terms of laminate I really like it. Doesn't look cheap. Installed well with virtually no damaged boards.

Not the cheapest but having used some cheap stuff elsewhere in the house and a friend using midrange it's obvious to see the difference in quality
My main tip is bargain hard as we got a good chunk off when we ordered ours

Cheers for the recommends. It's all gone a little quiet. Fingers crossed the idea will pass.

Why is it so good? Is it nice to work with as a fitter, or is it genuinely decent?

Both Phil, they have the best and strongest locking systems. They do not come apart like others !

It's a bit more expensive than the like of homebase etc but you won't need to replace it in a couple of years !

Just before you go laminating any thing, do you have proper floorboards in your house? Seen so many people put fake wood over the top of real timber floorboards when you could just refurb them

That's probably because refurbishing real floorboards appears to be the biggest ballache ever.
