You can get wireless cameras.. I'm using wired ones.

If you go with wireless cameras just remember they'll hammer the bandwidth on your WIFI network.

Two of my cameras failed this morning for no apparent reason..

Strangely enough they are both the same make "SecuriCam" and the only two of those that I've got..

Clearly junk...

Just upgraded to the HikVision DS-7608.. I wish I had bitten the bullet and just bought this NVR in the first place!

I there any advantage to this box vs hooking them up to a synology box / xpenology computer?

Im currently running 4 hikvision cameras and its working well enough but the DVR looks quite neat

Do they do a dvr that's wifi? My phone line and router is at other end of the house to where dvr is. Also what's max length of run for these ip cameras? Seen some motion detection domes but don't think my samsung dvr will do them.

* You don't have to pay for the Synology licenses.
* You can have a hard wired monitor (if you want).
* The mobile app (iVMS) and P2P Service (ezviz) are free and SUBERB!
* The mobile push notifications are an awesome feature.

Also its totally plug and play with the HikVision cameras..

The simple solution would be PowerLine adaptors or a WIFI AP.
