Internet points.

I bought a pair of sunglasses this year for about £15 that my optician recommended for after having laser eye surgery.

Work fine, look good.

Unfortunately means I have less bragging rights on the interwebz.

I haven't seen anyone mention 'expensive' glasses for riding a bike. I've seen mention of interchangeable lenses which makes sense and good levels of UV protection (which makes sense regardless of whether they're for sport or just normal wear) but I've not seen anyone say that Nic needs to buy £££s worth of glasses, simply that £1 don't really cut the mustard.

I bought a pair for £3 from Peacocks. They do the job fine, but then again, i tend not to stare at the sun whilst wearing them.

As RichR says, nobody said that. I said "good" not "expensive".

As I also said, I've been trying a pair of Ryders which are quite nice and half price of my cheapest Oakleys, so it's definitely possible to find good, cheap sunglasses.

Most sport brands like Adidas and Nike also make some good sport sunglasses that can often be found at quite reasonable prices.

I'm hovering over buying a pair of custom Oakley Radar Locks for shooting. As with Balling, my favourite pair are my Crosshair Ducatis but I still have a special place for my Straight Jacket (1) Fire Ice pair.

Maui Jims for me - the best quality sunglasses lenses optically that money can buy.

I have some cheap Gant polarised ones for messing about in and some Maui Jims for when I'm doing something when there's no chance of them getting damaged.

Cheap non-uv absorbing sunnies are more damaging than not wearing any at all - the pointless tint on them dilates you pupil ('cos it's darker), allowing more UV light to get into your eyes.

Eye conditions accelerated by UV light? The main ones are cataracts and macular degeneration, followed by pingueculae and ptyergium, with loads of other thrown in there too.

Wear your 'shades'

Paid £17 for mine, just as good (if not better) than any £100+ brand -

Look the same as my Enclaves, except mine were £80 cheaper

Tbf, most of the brands posted in here are owned and manufactured (in the same factory) by Luxottica - you just pay for the brand name

Love those. After the Crosshairs they're my favourite model ever.

The titanium frame is quite sturdy as well. I took a knee to the face in a game of beach volley while wearing these. Got a bruise around one eye in the shape of the frame, and they were knocked clean off my face, but still looked as new.

Got mine for snowboarding, knowing they might take a bit of damage, were in perfect condition when they got robbed from my car. Second pair were £30 off eBay, polarised lenses on the second lot

Am I the only one that never wears sunglasses ever? Think my last pair were from a flea market in Florida and they've been sat in the dookit in the car ever since.

Which in no way means they're the same, as you well know. A lot of very different, and often competing, products are made in the same factories.

Obviously, as with any product, you pay extra for the brand, but very often, as is the case with Oakley, they also have a certain and very distinctive style while maintaining a high quality.

As always, if you're prepared to shop around and do your research then yes, there are cheaper alternatives than brand name products.

Not trying to say all brand names are automatically good, btw.

Or any sunglasses made by a brand know for something other than sunglasses.

Edit: Love the description for these.
