I cut down the one in the right of the picture yesterday as it had grown to look terrible dropping to one side

The other 2 I wish to keep but want to shorten in height. Most forums are saying its not wise to do this and would be better chopping the whole tree down

Anyone had experiences with Silver Birch trees

It might rot from the top down if you chop it off, Birch aren't the hardiest of trees. But you might as well try it, worst outcome is that it dies and you have to take it down anyway.

If you do take the top off then make the cut on an angle rather than just straight across. That way the rain will drain off and give it a better chance of survival

I would rather see a tree than another house, just my opinion.
