brother is looking at a new surround sound for his new house. he has seen a couple of LG ones.

he wants small speakers at the front and tall boys at the back. all the ones hes seen say tall boys are at the front.

will it affect the sound if the speakers were swapped round?

It makes no sense to have the big ones at the back.

With 5 channels, the vast majority of your sound is coming from the two front corners, vocals from the centre, and just ambient sounds (wind, rain, footsteps) from behind.

Large speakers generally give you a better range, so smaller ones at the front means your sound quality will suffer.

I was told (by an enthusiast) when specing up my first ever system, to spend 80% of my speaker budget on the fronts and 20% on the rears.

If he's looking at a budget LG setup I can't imagine it'll matter much as the "large" front speakers will technically still be small and the sub will be doing most of the work.

Though it's hardly going to improve anything.

Why not go for an all satellite kit and use stands for the rears if he has nowhere to wall mount them?
