I changed to Santander recently from Halifax. Both banks are as "ok" as each other but for the love of god don't change your current account, it's a fucking nightmare

Changed from natwest (part of rbs) to halifax in 2010 so I could get a mortgage. They did the 100 quid offer back then too.

No problems from what I can remember. They sort everything out.

Halifax are decent. I have been with them for banking, mortgage, loan, credit card, insurances etc. very good overall. Good call centres, open Saturday. Their Switching service is apparently very good.

Do Halifax still charge £1 a day for being even £0.01 into your arranged overdraft?

Depends on how big your overdraft is, and what account, the ultimate reward account is £15 a month, you get quite a few benefits, as well as £300 fee-free overdraft, but over that you get charged £1 a day, yeah.

Just changed the missus over online to Halifax, to get the £100 you have to use their changing service who apparently move over everything from your previous account.

Not sure you can do it from RBS though as their HBOS, so essentially the same company?

Is it not? Thought it was Halifax bank of scotland? Is that not RBS?

4. Existing Bank of Scotland current account customers are not eligible for the offer.

That's not RBS?

I'm just moving back to RBS after I done a 100 switch deal to Santander years ago. Wages and stuff still get paid into RBS and got fed up moving it about every month.

Never had a problem with them.

So unless you pay £15 a month you do pay £1 a day for being in an overdraft?

I'm with Natwest (RBS), never had a problem with them.

Can always get through to a UK call centre very quickly if required. Good online banking and iPhone/iPad apps.

I've considered changing before, but I don't the benefits justify the hassle involved.

Surely they can't do that. Maybe for an un-arranged overdraft, but if it's arranged then surely you just get charge the extortionate interest rate associated with the overdraft?

Not much hassle when I switched to Nationwide the only hassle was going to to the branch to prove address and stuff the rest they did. Plus you get £100 if its not done in a week.

when I did apply on line the page just froze at the end and there was no conformation email so I ended up with three accounts. The third they said to them longer than a week to swich(even though there wasnt anything to switch) so they gave me £100. Which was nice

If more people switched there maybe more offers out there

This is why I like them. Missus just changed all of her accounts to RBS as well as they are far easier to deal with.

I have to use; Clydesdale, Santander and Lloyds through work and RBS have by far the better online and App services.

I changed to Santander from Halifax, including current account, and was no issues at all. Transferred all my direct debits and apart from having a different debit card it was like i had never changed banks. Perfect.

I always consider switching but then I think about credit applications asking how long you've been with your bank and having to say months instead of 12 years and think nah.

The banks were fine, but changing the details on every e-commerce website and stuff like that was just a huge PITA

Direct Debits and Salary etc all got sorted without a fuss

Halifax overdrafts are as below:

Pay 15 quid for the ultimate reward account:

300 quid fee free overdraft. Over that its £1 a day upto a certain amount, then it's £2 a day.

Normal account is £1 a day, even if you arrange an overdraft

That's steep for an arranged £300 overdraft.

Don't have any problems with Halifax and been with them for around 15 years.

There charges are a bit on the high side but quite simple to understand. You pay £1 per day if you have and use an overdraft of a value of £2500 and £2 per day for anything over that. These are arranged costs.
