40inch meh TV (£250) for general viewing of 'a place in the sun' or some crap like the voice on a Saturday night.

120" 1080p projector (£5-600) for watching anything you actually want to enjoy.

Had Hannibal on the other night, lights off, surround sound up, even I was shitting it at times

at plasmas not generating more heat then any other electrical item, that is rubbish.

older ones were terrible for it, the fact some bezels and frames were bowing from too much heat says it all really.

I might have missed the bit where he said he was looking at buying a TV from 2002.

It's true that longevity and power consumption used to be issues with plasma TV's. Heat was a natural result of the power consumption.

That's years ago though and all those issues have long been ironed completely out.

Mines only a 720p optoma one, I forget the model but I did a thread on here, picked it up cheap with only a few hours on the bulb. I wanted to see if I'd actually use it before spending serious money. Turns out it's been a great purchase, we use it a lot ,even at 720p it's in a different league to watching something on a TV in terms of an immersive experience. Will definitely be looking to invest in something more capable in the near future.
