Cool!! Looks so small. I think perez will do well. Button comes across a friendly bloke and open to help a relitively new driver find his feet in the team. Bloody hope so bcuz mclaren need to be winning champs!!

Was just reading that a few F1 media members (Autosport were apparently there) got to hear audio of the Merc engine on a dyno; as you said, it's suppose to be a decent sound but i'll wait until i hear it myself.

There's a decent article on the turbo engine in this months Racecar Engineering; was also a good article on Renault's engine back in the December issue (if anyone wants copies then let me know and i'll stick them up somewhere).

Edit - Autosport article on engine sound - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/105081?source=mostpopular

Got a link?

The rumour has been going around since they announced the turbo engines but i would have thought they'd have announced it by now as i imagine teams would already have the engine.

Right now i know who you're talking about - IIRC, spent most of his F1 career/season retiring out of races if i'm not mistaken
I'll take it all as a pinch of salt especially as his comment reads like a translation mixup ie: rather than Honda will return, it's more of a case of him hoping they'll return.

Still, it'd be awesome to see Honda powered McLaren's again

Most famous for being run over by a marshals car whilst trying to put a fire out.

I don't get the secrecy over audio thing, why exactly could you learn from it?

A fair amount of information can be given away in sound (to trained ears). Hence why teams will usually record track sessions (been rumours of teams strapping audio gear to cars during tests in hope of capturing audio of other team cars) and then comb over the audio - it's how both off-throttle blown diffusers and Renault dropping cylinders in corners to improve traction (+ OTBD) were discovered (granted both are quite distinct sounds).

I get that you can work stuff out from a moving vehicle, engine pitch at a certain speed should allow you to roughly calculate a gear ratio for example but an engine on a dyno, I don't see what you'd be able to ascertain

Wasn't a straight dyno run rather a simulated track run (Monza) on a dyno.

Monza? So it was basically four Dyno power runs with 6 gear changes every 30seconds or so

Perez is slinging mud like a pro

Saying Rosberg is the fastest German driver atm

Wonder it's some kind of proactive protective barrier for if Button outpaces him over the season...

Hamilton > Rosberg > Vettel
Hamilton >= Button
Button > Perez
Perez = Vettel.

Or something like that

It must suck if you don't have Sky Sports (just saying generally) because they really have trodden on what the BBC was doing! Love the coverage from SS I have to say!

My sky cable runs under the ground and it seems to be damaged under there somewhere, landlord won't allow us to get it fixed as it means digging the whole drive up which will cost to much to sort, will just have to watch it in other peoples houses
