I'm looking to change my ignition switch as my stereo is playing up due to it.
I've been following the Haynes manual advice and it seems to be too vague.
It says once you've taken off the upper and lower steering wheel covers all you need to do is to pull the ignition wiring connector away from the ignition switch. Then you just need to loosen 2 grub screws on the ignition barrel to release the switch.
Hmmm, well I'm stuck on the bit where you have to pull the wiring connector away from the switch. It just seems stuck on. I'm scared to yank it off in case I break something. How do you remove it safely?

The picture below shows (according to my knowledge) the Wiring connector in GREEN, and the ignition switch in RED.
I circled the bit in BLUE because I imagined I'd have to push that bit in to remove the wiring connector. But no give.

Be, very careful I took the switch apart once, and I had springs and bits in my footwell.

How do you know it's causing a fault with you radio?

Due to the discussion in this thread of mine: http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=644054&highlight=1&pid=8564947#pid8564947

I only want to take the switch out in toto to replace it with one from ebay for £8.
I don't want to split/take apart the switch itself.
How do you take it off in one piece without breaking it?

Interesting idea. Where does the cable tie go? Longways from the wiring connector all the way to the key insert?

Where are these screws? I can see a couple of grub screws on the ignition barrel itself. But I'm looking to loosen off the actual switch from the barrel. And I can't see any screws on the switch

You mean on the dash side of the switch itself? So just loosen that and bingo?
How do you then get the wiring connector off the switch?

Many thanks guys for all your help. I can feel a solution is close!

At the back of the switch at the dash side theres a little grub screw, undo that and it will pull out. then youll understand how to get the wires off. But to be honest, the first time you do this you will fuck it up. I replaced mine 3 times trying to get mine off lol!

I had heaps of pictures! but lost my phone and never backed it up! :@

I was at it again today - but this time with a mirror to get a good look around the back of the switch.
I couldn't see any grub screw round there Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough, I dunno.

I did manage to get the 'end piece' off the wiring connector though.
And I then took some photos of what was left.
I thought that if I pushed a screwdriver into the bits arrowed in GREEN that would surely loosen the switch off?? Help!

Sorry mate, I didn't understand fully.
Are you saying there is one screw which will loosen this switch off, and it begins at the silver metal end and then runs into the switch?

What do you mean by "wove way"?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure there's only one screw, maybe two. It's been a while.

Defiantly goes through silver thing

Ok, thanks mate. Next time I have a look I'll look for the screw(s) you mentioned.

Bloody Haynes manual just says to pull it off as if it's just a bottle top!
