How can you tell the difference by looking and a fan and which side of the radiator is it best placed for maximum cooling?

Doesn't specifically matter what side, as long as the fan is on the correct side for its flow. Normally will say in advert which way the fan is, and if I remember correctly mine has an arrow on it for direction it should be operated.

Iv bought a second hand Spal 9" fan but not sure if it's a push or pull so don't know what side to put it on.

I forgot to ask before i bought it

Il have a look to see if there is any arrows showing which way it spins.

You just swap the wires round, which will make it push or pull.

Short it out and see what way it blows. Then you can wire it up how you want.

I just fitted one on mine, all you need to to is just connect to a battery and put you hand on either side.

One way with push air and one pull air, easy.

Do you think a single 9" slim line fan is bigger enough for a XE?

I have two fans on my rad. and it was resting against the manifold so i have to put my fans at the bumper side. As someones said, just wrap the wires or touch them together to see what way the air is flowing. if its flowing towards the engine then thats right

Clockwise is the way it should be running for it to work correctly.

I used two 9" fans side by side on my Alloy Rad. The fan cant be bigger than the rad as you have to get a hold in the corners with the fitting kit that goes through the rad

Nope. A 9 inch. I have an alloy rad that's bigger that the standard one and a 9" only fits.

Yeah mate. Anything bigger and you don't get a fixing point.

Look this is my Alloy rad, it's Bigger than standard and the 9" fans are the biggest I can fit. Because if they were bigger I wouldn't get a fixing in the corners.
