Sorry to go off topic a bit but why do alot of people always day "wipes vts's" as a bench mark ? Beyond me why you would brag about beating a french rattly hatch (ive had one) back on topic id stay clear of the 1.8 20 turbo real world everyday driving not that economical and have problems best off finding a cheap gt tdi golf or a a3 tdi and remap would be my choice

My FN2 did 28mpg comfortably, and that was with the odd bit of vtec. My missus somehow had it in the mid 30's whenever she drove it

Best I had was 40mpg on a 100mile motorway run, but I was slipstreaming lorries.

Considering the FN2 is pretty much the same engine as the EP3, with a load more bulk... I can't imagine the EP3 is THAT bad on fuel(?)

Don't seem to find anyone that gets more than 25mpg around town in a Type R and that's keeping out of VTEC

I know there a nippy car but that is shit my scooby would be quicker overall and FEEL faster and do 23 with 4wd.

Think I'll settle on a MK4 Golf wether it's petrol or diesel. Have the bug for remapping one and dropping it on coilovers with some 19's

Type r was no worse than the clio 182 i had before it.

Put the same amount of petrol in every morning and travelled the same 70 mile a day.

Ctr had the 6th gear so was a bit better on the motorway.

Well all I know is my 182 was great on fuel and I ragged it everywhere! Could easy see 350 out of a tank.

If I could borrow a Type R for a tankful I'd at least know then.

Like this one?

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/volkswagen/golf-gti-mk3-mk4/vw-golf-1-8t-gti-hi-line/858255

This is literally 2 minutes away from my house and the number just rings out! also no reply from email.

Not really wanting a 5 door but it's good mileage and heated leather.

Ive had a few too, also an SRi hatch with the Z18XE and the current coupe which has the X18XE1. The SRi hatch done 48mpg on a run to Blackpool. Cost me about £70 tops there and back.

My point being, a 200bhp CTR dosn't seem that bad at all if they do just shy of 30mpg.

But they do though.

A lardy ass Mk4 Golf with 150bhp certainly won't be great on fuel.

A friend of mine had exact same criteria and same reasons, he got a vectra c 1.9 cdti for 2.2k on an 06 player with 80k on the clock. Nice motor and will be running a dtuk tuning box by tomorrow. He's happy for a die hard ford fan!

Go for a gt tdi 150. I moved from my supercharged MX5 which went like a train to a gt tdi 150 and I'm really impressed with how it pulls. It can be remapped up to 180 odd BHP with 430 ft lb of torque. Two good friends have had their 1.9 tdi's remapped (one Golf, one Polo) and have seen an improvement of 5 mpg on top of the performance.

18s and slam it and your done

They do.... My brother has had 2.

You are basing your information on some1 who has just made an M3 sound shit, and has made video of him driving in a straight line up the road, pretending the rear is stepping out. You are wrong.
