Was driving car tonight and eveything going alright then the car started to splutter then cut out, so started it again and now it wont start! So put fuel in the car and checked the fuel nipple and its getting fuel. Then tryed the battery with leads and its got battery. Checked ignition wire and that looks fine. Its got water and oil and fuel!

What the fuck could it be?

Check all of the brown wires in the engine bay which are your earths.

Once you've done that, take spark plug out, plug it back into the HT Lead leave it resting on the cam cover, and crank it over see if it sparks.

ive heard that if the plugs are black the car could be over fueling, and to be honest its does go through alot of fuel! Does anyone know how to stop this?

If your plugs are black, they it's running rich. Which could be down something like a faulty, coolent temp sensor, O2 sensor or air flow meter.

If it's not sparking check your dizzy cap, and rotor arm they might knacked if you've got them. Also the crank postion sensor tells the ecu to spark.

The trouble is these engines are all pretty old now, so it could be all manner of things. Even the loom could be fudged.

Not getting spark could be a few things, #1 being the plug to the ecu not secured properly resulting no power to the coil but if it's a late engine it would be coil pack instead of distributor?

Coil pack could be gone, might need new spark plugs, HT Leads etc. If it's recently stopped I'd say it's something to do with wiring if nothing else is showing signs of wear.

Are you sure all the earths are earthed out well? That would also give you the symptons you're having

Also, the O2 sensor is the Lambda sensor, the normal place to find it is on the down pipe bit of the manifold just past the sump
