One of my laptops has a virus on it which has managed to make its way past the anti-virus, causing the computer to run terribly slowly, what are the best ways to remove a virus other than the complete format?

Any help would be great

I know you said no format, but I seriously would advise it as it's probably the easier option (albeit depending on the type of infection).

I've managed to get the type of virus, it is:

Generic.virtob.2.65FC13C8

The reason I'd like to avoid formatting is I don't have a windows 7 cd and also the computer is a notebook with no disk drive

Is there not usually a restore in those cases on a separate partition?

It's probably easier to just back up your important files to a USB stick and do a factory reinstall of Windows on your netbook (pressing something like F11 when you turn it on should bring up a recovery menu).

It is normally possible to remove malware but it's a pain in the ass and very time consuming.

Cheers Brett, forgot about the restore, gave it a try but it wouldnt go back far enough to before the virus.

Sam, thanks mate, pressed F8 and did all the above, computer is working fine again now
