It's exactly the same on an iPad or a desktop monitor, nothing to do with zooming in.

2048 doesn't have to be a problem Steve, just means that text at a larger size is smoother and people who can read the smaller stuff can have more of it on the screen.

Just going from my iPhone 4 to the iPad I notice a big drop in the sharpness of the display.

Also, it's not like a TV that you sit 6ft away from, you hold it a foot from you're face so the 'retina' screen will make a huge difference.

300dpi displays are a thing of beauty - the way stuff is rendered on the screen is different too. So 12px tall text doesn't render stupidly small e.t.c...

I managed to reserve my iPad 2 online last year, then just strolled up to the Apple store in the trafford centre mid afternoon the following day to collect it. Won't be queuing up.

Sometimes they don't offer the reserve option but I think it depends on how high the demand is so I can't see them not doing it.

Each store gets an allocation each day, the systems are refreshed at 9pm each night at which point you can go on, select a store and attempt to reseve one before the allocation is gone.

Its a case of getting 4-5 tabs with a differrent store on each at 8:59 then clicking through and hammering refresh...its pandemonium

You wouldn't have had to wait if you didn't sell your old one, which of course had every feature possibly required.

Might buy a couple if there's a chance of a shortage. We all know what happened with the iPhone which puts me off a bit.

I don't mind waiting but whats the point when you can just reserve one and get it the next day.

Buying some to sell on is only worth it if you've got somewhere to sell them that isn't eBay.

pre orders probably wont happen this time round, only way to get one will be to get lucky with a reservation. i can imagine these will be out of stock longer than the ipad2was.
and a smaller ipad? the ipod
