An Evo is not expensive to run for what you get, they are effectively two cars after all.

Also if you went on MLR and asked about running costs you really wouldn't get a load of twatish 'If you have to ask, don't buy one' replies

Lee just get one. Once my loan is finished next summer Ill hopefully be in an 8MR FQ340. I plan on getting one to 400/400 then enjoying it. (on a MR its boost controller, exhaust and ecutek remap)
MPG wise 26 on a run, 18 urban, alot less then that if giving it death.
If you like launching proper clutches are expensive but a must have.
AYC pumps can and do fail, and standard discs do warp if used hard.

If you like modding, go on MLR and look at what RossSport is selling in the gold area of the trader section. Lots of lovely little bits to keep you spending for days on end.

"If you need to ask, you can't afford it" is an ostentatious way of trying to maintain some degree of exclusivity for your 5 year old, 4 door, 4 cylinder production car.

Take your head out of your ass Ian I never said he can't afford it and if you read the other post's I'm trying to be realistic and advise the lad because I do own one.

Try this Lee: http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_runningcostcalculator.php

Why no option to service it yourself?

Only thing I can see in there that's a bit expensive is brakes.

Fuel - same as any car with a big engine.
Servicing - expensive but that's because there's no Halfords Trade card option
Insurance - 2k yeah about right?
Brakes - £900, really?

If you don't get that book stamped up with Mitsubishi dealer or specialist stamps on every interval you can say goodbye to it fetching good money. You may not like it, but thats how it is I'm afraid.

Not really. Ive done all the work on mine so far. It's just the services that people get funny with and high mileage.

Same with any car though isn't it? People like main dealer or specialist history?

Doesn't mean you can't own one without that.

Obviously you wouldn't buy a top dollar one and spoil the trail, but if there are cheap cars out there which have been serviced on driveways, find one and run it, no less likely to break.

Everyone prefers main dealer history yes but the interest you would lose from missing that on a say a Peugeot 206 would be no where near what you'd lose from selling an Evo. Most of them are enthusiast owned like many performance cars and just by browsing the classifieds and researching on forums, you will see a big dip in the market for Evo's with little or no specialist service history. When I was looking for my LCR, you would pay a lot less for one that had missed the 60k cambelt and water pump interval because owners stress and discuss it so much that it will affect the market.
It's just the way the marque works. Nothing personal.

I know we're talking about the same thing, you're quite right, and forums on the most part are responsible for it.

I just wondered whether you could work it to your advantage. In fact I'm sure you can, assuming you're not part of it.

I'm just completely jaded, done the whole main dealer experience, nothing in that league but when I look back at having my pants pulled down for the same work by the same people I do what I can now to avoid it.

There's something romantic about caring for a car by spending lots of money in a nice building, but the car is still the same at the end of it.

After my experiences of main dealers, I'd be more wary, at least, of a car with full dealer history!

Most of the lads use specialists now theres a few good ones around. Their stamps are just as good. You can get some great deals like Indigo GT are offering service and underseal for £200 all in Most of the specialists maintian and enter competitive Evo's so they're the people to work with.

I for one am sick of Thegsi aka 'Mr Important' since he got that evo he is just a jerk.

I mean what a nobbish reply, don't let him put you off the MLR they're a helpful bunch who don't give answers just to make them look like they're members of an elitist sect.

It was simply a point which didn't have to be made? Sounds like the sort of thing that's swung around the forums from people who think they are better because they own one to me. No offence to you as I don't know you but just saying what it appears like.
