Got my XE in the corsa now together enough to try turning it over.. Good news it does but doesn't start.. The fuel pump relay isn't clicking on with the ignition and I'm not sure why.

What's that dodgy connection in the picture? Half crimped?

Relay is about £10 on eBay

Relay is easy to test - put 12v to the trigger pins and see if it triggers and also put 12v to the output pins and see if whatever its running, runs.

Have you ran the live into the bay?
Also relays on these are garbage so a new one would be a start.

ok so i looked more closely at this problem today, there was no connection on the 85 pin of the relay.

this is the trigger but wasnt sure of what side of the trigger so ran a wire from there to the battery negative and the relay clicked on soon as it made contact with the earth. tried starting again and still no start.

looking at the coil, should there be something connected to this upright bit?

also thought i'd take the plugs out and check for a spark.................................

SHIT!! all 4 plugs the same :/

and advice really needed now thanks

That half crimped thick red should be staight to a perm live the oil could be due to the rocker cover leaking down into them

the "half crimped thick red" goes to the plug thing for the coil

but what is the empty terminal bit for?

That is ALOT of oil on the plugs, if the rocker isnt seriously leaking and flooding the chamber where the plugs sit, then you have a fucked engine, rings or stems letting oil into the pots.

I know, I think it is oil leaked from the rocker cover and got onto the plugs like that as I removed them... I hope it is at least

Might have just not been wired up.
When I did mine I had no spark or fuel I hadn't ran the live into the bay, but for the life of me I can't remember where it went.
