Not my car, but help appreciated..

1.2 Corsa C

Works fine, but occassionally when driving the speedo will just drop down back to zero and stop working, but then pick back up again randomly.

Where should I start?

Cheers

...been told when it stops if you start smacking the dash then it comes back on? I'm guessing it could just be the cable to the back of the clocks then rather than at gearbox end?

Chances are it's electric in the C.

Hitting the dash would suggest a loose connection.

Otherwise i'd have thought the sender in the box was on way out.

Take the dash panel out and clean the connections in the plug. Should sort it.

Clean connectors, on the car side plug and the dials.

Also be worth checking the plug is secure in the dash.

If not, speedo sensor.

If it has an aftermarket hu they have a sensor wire that increases the sound with speed, if this is not connected as I don't think they work in vx anyway it may be touching the cage intermittently which would cause the speedo needle to drop, know from experience In my old mk4 Astra, worth a look

Brown wire yea that's it had me confused for ages how it would work then suddenly go off, about 4 months before I realised it was only when I put the stereo front on
