That was Edwards.

I think he was more worried for Marco. How Rossi stayed on!

I didn't see the original video posted in the thread as its been pulled but there's others on youtube now showing it in slow motion.

Nothing Edwards or Rossi could have done. Certainly Edwards impact would have done damage but it looks like it was actually Rossi that would have inflicted the more serious injuries. He pretty much rode straight over his head, would be more accurate to say his helmet shattered than came off.

Its the most horrific crash I've ever seen by far.

It all happened so fast I doubt the others even knew until it was far too late. Rossi did well to keep it upright given the severity of it.

Was chilling watching it again earlier. Poor blokes face on the floor.

I stayed away from the race results as I've sky+ it. Only found out because my m8 in works g/f is Italian and her uncle is at her house now and has known Simoncelli since a child. He got a call before from the family

He was at Carlisle airport less than a month ago testing the MSport Fiesta S2000 for one of his sponsors!

Wish I had gone over to meet him, not just watched from the sides!

Just because people haven't met someone doesn't mean they don't feel saddened by what's happened!

on a more positve note.....

I loved his riding style.... big lanky gallar on a bike. Looked way too big to be as fast as he was.

Werent Rossi and him good friends?

I imagine it'll be pretty hard for Rossi to get his head straight if they were.

People are suggesting Rossi will retire now

And that him and Edwards have not spoke about it since the race

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Rossi decided to pack it in. He's nothing left to prove and has had his own share of nasty injuries over the last couple of years.
Unfortunately I agree with the others that it was Rossi's bike that caused the head injury, that'll be very hard for him to take.

I think he will retire as well. Sad way for him to end his biking career if he does but totally understandable.

RIP Simoncelli, a shining light has gone from the world of Moto GP.

What happened before the accident?

Looks like he was out cold drooping off the bike before he got hit?
