well todays progress is, one side skirt to finish off and the startings of a front skirt

well 'the machine' has been at it again today

todays progress.......

front skirt coming along nicely and side skirt in paint (needs rubbing down and another coat though)

edit....omg that is a shit pic.....I'll get some better ones tommorow

will look ace lowered a tad, not sure how well the starmags will match mind maybe a tad small? if soooo i want dibs providing theyre 7 or 8 wide and not 6

the other proper old car that u first restored, do u actually drive that thing on the road like day to day ?? it must be a right ball ache to drive all the time .

it would look better lowered a bit, but it would cost a fortune as the front suspension is a transverse leaf spring and after reading up on it, the only way to do it is to have new leafs made with less bend in them

the starmags are the same size as the old wheels that are on there at the moment and tyres I've ordered are 60 profile so should look ok.....btw they'e 8 wide hence having to widen the arches

when I first finished the restoration I was using it every day, but was putting too many miles on it, it had only done 30k from new.
as for a ball ache to drive, it puts a lot of newer cars to shame, its a real beauty to drive as they were so well engineered.......Alvis, in their day, were on a par with rolls royce and bentley

heres yesterdays progress, until rain stopped play....

I did get the drivers side all fibreglassed but no pics of that yet as it rained pretty bad

and heres how the front skirt was coming along before painting half of it with the passenger side skirt...

and after a bit of paint on....

well not much done today as these were delivered......

so couldn't wait to see how the car is going to look......

the wheels finish it off nicely but I'm having some rubbing issues to sort out first

sorry for the lack of updates, but i've had some major issues with the (bloody) simca.....why did I never listen when people told me never to buy a french car ?

heres what went wrong over the last couple of weeks......

engine ran fine to begin with, then bang, clatter clatter....cam shaft timing gear had worked loose, so engine out (again) to sort it.

then the fuel pump sucked some sludge up from the bottom of the tank, blocking all the jets in the carb. so fuel tank had to be cleaned out (yes I should of done it when it was off the car) so to get the tank out, the engine had to be removed again.

then the wheel cylinders started leaking again after new seals had been fitted, so new cylinders all round and new shoes.

then the other day, I put the ignition key in, turned it and just got the click from the solenoid, I thought great, starter motor has gone faulty so removed it, stripped it and cleaned all the brushes then refitted it to get another click from the solenoid........it was a bad earth from the chassis to the engine block! grrrrrr

anyway as I sit here typing this, all the above is sorted and I'm going to do a test drive tommorow.....then hopefully the mot will be one day through the week.

waters's tip of the day....month...in fact year.........never buy a simca! the alvis was far easier

problems + problems = simca......but all sorted now and mot is booked for tommorow morning so fingers crossed
