Like most AWD, Quattro promotes slight and predictable understeer.
I liked it in mine. Felt safe in wet conditions.

I don't get when people say any 4wd system is not real - it either supplies drive to all four wheels or it doesn't

think it does, but only a small percentage or torque to any set of wheels at once
so never full power to all four wheels

dunno, i think its basically fwd with a small amount of power getting directed to the rear wheels
thats what iv ever heard anyway

In most instances it sends the bulk of the drive to the front wheels. When the system notices the front wheels losing grip (can be as little as 1/7th of a turn) it then transfers more drive to the rears although I think (and I may be wrong) the maximum is a 50/50 split.
In real terms you have to be a complete pleb to lose traction in a Haldex equipped car. Even with the ESP off you can exit corners in the wet in low gears and on boost without losing drive, this is where the systems really excel.
The stigma attached to the Haldex derived Quattro's seams to be that Audi fans didn't like it as it didn't use the Torsen diff that other Quattros (usually the longitudinal mounted engines) use. Then the internet got hold of it and that was that.
It's not just VW/Audi that use Haldex systems, I know Volvo and Saab do quite extensively and I think Ford use it on the Kuga.

Haldex is crap on early VAG cars. Thats why I've bought a "Blue" upgraded vers.

The Haldex system is AWD not 4wd as all 4 wheels aren't powered 100% of the time

Mine was mapped up to 260bhp with 300lb/ft torque.
Couldn't spin the wheels up in the wet, with traction control off.
Clutch smell was lovely
