Do you want a contract?

If so, Samsung Galaxy S 2, just released, probably the best phone in the world.

Available on PAYG from o2 for £400 iirc

Well that's your choice mate, you either pay a lot for the phone, get it PAYG, and then when your bored sell it, buy something else PAYG, or pay fuck all and get an 18-24m contract

wtf! are you kidding?

My fiancee got one free and is paying £35pm.

Think you're getting shafted by your provider!
Why not just change company and get a decent deal?

Who are you with?

EDIT - oh wait, it's probably the 12 month contract thing that's killing it.

I'd definitely suggest getting a smart phone though, for those cold nights on the rig, will give you something to do.

You can download thousands of apps on an iPhone or an Android to waste time playing with. If you're into games, there's loads of them, if you like puzzles, you could do them, dont require wifi or data connection to use once they are downloaded (most of them anyway)

I know I'm biased when I say this... buy an iPhone 4.

£500-ish SIM free/PAYG, or £35/month with 3 on a 24 month contract and £29 handset price.

Or as you're with Vodafone, U2U Robbo...

I would just get an iPhone on contract. Easy to use, loads of apps and it's an iPod too.
