Will I need to run x16xe ecu?

I know the head will mate up as there the same.

Also are x14/16xe port sizes on the heads the same, pretty sure they are but just double checking.

Heads are identical. You need to run X16 ecu yes, you may also need 1.6 injectors, Can't remember if they are different or not.

port sizes are smaller too on the head and on the inlet manifold - this can been seen on other websites where they even show the measurements being different
taken from another post
epc shows a match (part numbers) for X14XE and X16XEL, but not X16XE.
The head from the X14XE has smaller inlet and outlet ports and the exhaust cam has a lower duration and valve lift than the exhaust cam in the X16XE.

So, smaller ports, different exhaust cam.

X14XE, C16XE, X16XE, X16XEL - all share same inlet cam
C16XE X16XE - exhaust cam is same part number as the inlet cam
X14XE, X16XEL- share the same exhaust cam, but is not the same cam as above (i,e does not use inlet cam)

The C16XE/X16XE/X16XEL headgasket part no is: 90511490
The X14XE headgasket part no is: 90510684

torque has been higher using smaller ports power drops at higher revs though

pics can be seen on other websites all this was taken from those who know and have tested.

Sick of being corrected on stuff I too have checked myself

X16XEL Std size ports, but are triangle shape, rather than clover leaf. Yes its possible that vauxhall fitted a different head, but anyway the inlet is irreverent if you fit a X14/16xe inlet too.

I can't remember the cams.

the Head gaskets are different part numbers as the X14 is smaller bore, But this don't affect the head at all. And most times when you order a 1.4 gasket, Your get a 1.6 one, Which is just a larger bore on the head gasket itself.

The exhaust ports are the same right across the baby xe engines of that era, Right from X14XE to X18XE1.

But I stand by what I say, Ive had both X16XE's and X14XE's on more than one time, apart, next to each other and compared.

just going by the pictures and what people have said
guy measured x14 and x16 ports on the head and on the inlet itself and were smaller on the x14 but the same shape

also said the only difference with the gasket was the thickness. would have though the bore be different too but it lines up ok. i have both here too but one isnt apart so cant really compare yet it will be apart soon though

not saying anyone is right or wrong just going by research everyone says different stuff

and alot of xel engines had the x14 head rather than the triangular port shaped one

wish i had that one to be fair

AW06, your right mate, c1.6xe, x1.6xe and x1.4xe are all the same head according to vauxhall
(matching part numbers).

sure he didnt measure a c16 and a x14 head? as the c16 heads are 1.5-2mm larger than then 14 or 16xe heads?

tbh id stick with the c16 head if could get hold of one over the xel but thats just me lol

iv found that my car had a x16xel conversion at some point after killing 2 x16xe's but the ports are clover leaf shaped, this mean i got the x16xe head on the x16xel block?

are the any differences in the 16xel and 16xe blocks?

as alot of people said the c16xe has bigger ports so surely would be a different part number?

X16xel 90400187, this uses triangular inlet ports, which work a lot better
90472726 c16xe
90400185 x16xe
90470271 x14xe
x14xe is also as 90400186 and is on some xel blocks

I think I may just find a complete x/c16xe tbh, I can change all the bits easily but complete engine swop is easier lol.
