It's not got a glowing Samsung logo, the D8000 does and yes it can be turned off on the 8000.

I bought my pioneer kuro for £2500 nearly 2 years ago, and am still hard pushed to find a TV which matches it.
I guess it depends on what you want from a TV etc, for mr it was a high end setup with a decent audio setup aswell.

Bring your own 3d glasses Paul.
This is high end Bart, its one of the best TV's out, I'm sure you are aware you get much more for the money now than you did then and this is still a 2.5k TV from most places.
Its up on the wall now and I've been watching it the past couple of hours. Its still amazing and I'm a picky bastard.
I've got my old onkyo/tanoy setup for sound for the moment, quite fancy some kefs next but I've spent enough money this week.

The 3D is excellent 
You can see the flickering when you sit at an angle but overall it is much better than cinema 3D.

There's a couch, a footstool and a beanbag in there just now, furniture is on order but it'll be months.
Amp, sky box etc are going in the cupboard under the stairs which is directly behind the TV so won't need any furniture to house them.

Yet to see a D7/D8000, but it looks pretty decent from the pics posted, it's well spec'd (DNLA, USB, Apps etc) and reviews seem to be pretty decent. Plus prices aren't too bad for the 40/46; around £1.1-1.5k.
Having a quick read on the D7000 thread on Avforums, it looks like a few have shipped with clouding and banding issues so it'll be interesting to see how this pans out. But still, it looks like an impressive TV for the money.
Interesting about mounting the gear in the cupboard behind the TV. What are you planning to use for control?
Have to agree with Bart though in saying that the 9G Kuro is still one of, if not the best, TVs out to date and there are a fair few people (reviewers, visual engineers etc) that agree with this. Granted high-end TVs now are better spec'd in terms of features like Freesat/view tunners, DNLA, USB media playback etc But in terms of picture quality I think it'll be a while before we see something that betters the Kuro. Shame it's nie impossible to get one now.....

I was watching Avatar in the Trafford centre on the same TV i think, or looks very similar and brand. was around 1900, looked good, could notice the low referesh rate when fast paced action scenes we're showing
