Passive is the way to go, but active is the popular choice amongst manufacturers as the TV is technically exactly the same as a regular HD TV and thus cheaper to produce.

A lot of people, myself included, experience flicker or lagging when watching 3D with active glasses. Fluid motions also tend to get blurry as a result of the low virtual refresh rate of the TV.

Halving the resolution will not be as pronounced from a distance, but the refresh rate will be the same no matter the distance to the screen.

Either way you're making sacrifices. Add to this that everyone watching the screen will need to wear glasses the entire time and sit more or less directly in front of the screen and you have yourself a product that's way overrated and overpriced.
Also, a lot of the brands a getting single rights for particular movies, so not all 3D movies can be played on one brands equipment.

It's worth to note, that this info is what I have gathered from the internet in a search for an answer to the question you ask. As such it may not be the universal truth, so take from it what you can.
The answer I found was, that the best value for my money, at this moment, is the LG 60PK950 plasma screen. 3D movies are DOA imo.

I don't like plasma so they are ruled out straight away, I know I could get one cheaper.

I'm tempted to go for the LG tbh, I can probably deal with the bezel to save 6 or 700 quid.

I can't see me watching much 3D content until it's easily downloadable.

Went into shop to buy LG, didn't have any sort of ETA, picked up the Samsung UE55D7000 yesterday, it's pretty good tbf, can't wait to get it up on the wall.

Had a very quick watch of the man u chelsea game in 3D and I caught the last 5 mins of Valkyrie on one of the HD movie channels earlier on and it looked amazing.

Thanks for the advice.

Robert Whyte, £1950, it's went up now though, I got it at that because I'd been in the week before asking about it.

Got one of these coming hopefully tomorrow (not that one, one off ebay that doesn't say samsung and is 130 quid cheaper)

Going to look amazing on the wall.

I got one of them off eBay hoping to hang my non-LED TV on it, had to send it back though as the wire was too long and you could see the cups sticking out the top of the TV.

The wires are different lengths for different VESA mounting sizes, I definitely seen 200mm and the one I've got is 400mm.

The holes on my Samsung are really close so im guessing its 200 x 200 and the cups you hang the wire on had to be less than an inch apart on the wall, obviously wasn't designed for my set.

Quite glad actually as I later read that the top two mounting holes on the Samsung LED's are reenforced to support that time of mount.

Saw this TV in RS the other week, it blew all the other TVs out of the water regarding picture quality, brightness, size and unfortunately, price.

The carpet is bad but luckily not as bad as the pictures make it look

TV was a much bigger priority than carpet.
