If we cant sell in here any more and no sub forum is being made, can we have a sticky for sale thread that everyone can use? to sell only no chat?

Plus, its only 1 sticky thread at the end of the day, no changes need to be made for a sub forum

yes.... one post FULL of shite. You'd have to search through all the posts (that may be very old).

Never going to work

Thats all very good, but if its only sale posts and NO chat, its better than searching through PAGES of ads that are miles away trying to find local users, whereas one thread with a few pages is much more simple

So you want a topped thread for a region which covers 30k square miles and you want Danny to keep it tidy for you?

I would be happier posting things in the correct place and if people need encouraging to use their postcodes, asking them to do that.

Topped thread which is structurally bad and staff time in administering it would not be something I would be looking to support.

Allow me thread moderating privelages for that single thread and I will keep on top of it?

Wouldn't do that to you.

We've got the potential to have a list of adverts already, where you can very easily see which are closest. The only issue with that is that not everyone stores a postcode, which I would far rather address than duplicating the adverts and taking up moderation time.

You would also need to deal with noobs working outside of the 50/30 rule etc. It's a lot of work for no reason when the weaknesses of the proper system are so easily addressed.

And if they're not easily addressed, we'll do more there. But I'm not having threads with sale items in, it's not good data.

Which isn't out of the question.

My master plan is that you need one in order to post adverts. It's not technically difficult to enforce but it also needs to be easy to use.

From now on to every new member it should be compulsary when signing up, a part of the form. I have no problem spotting a Scottish member in classifieds though as there's not that many of use so you tend to remember them all

tbh it would be better than someone starting a thread and saying 'aye, so these gsi front bumpers, how easy are they to fit?' then about 4 lines down they ask if anyone's got one for sale and it turns into a veiled for sale thread. Seen it happening a few times now

Why are you not allowed to post for sale threads in here anymore?

There's no outright rules, it's not an allowance thing, it's that I feel it's more appropriate from a usability and moderation point of view that we should use the proper place. My reasons -

Local adverts can be filtered using the 'Within xx miles' drop down, assuming people use Location Services (something which I plan to address)

It means a lot of people see them - which is easier to detect scams etc., if coverage is wider.

Old adverts die naturally without a moderation overhead.

The 50/30 rule is enforced more clearly and consistently, again without moderation input.

Ian, stick a post in General Chat telling people to update their location services. That'll make 90% of people do it I bet
