Board agree proposed sale

Liverpool Football Club today announces that the Board has agreed the sale of the Club to New England Sports Ventures (NESV).

New England Sports Ventures currently owns a portfolio of companies including the Boston Red Sox, New England Sports Network, Fenway Sports Group and Rousch Fenway Racing.

Martin Broughton, Liverpool FC Chairman, said:

"I am delighted that we have been able to successfully conclude the sale process which has been thorough and extensive. The Board decided to accept NESV's proposal on the basis that it best met the criteria we set out originally for a suitable new owner. NESV's philosophy is all about winning and they have fully demonstrated that at Red Sox.

"We've met them in Boston, London and Liverpool over several weeks and I am immensely impressed with what they have achieved and with their vision for Liverpool Football Club.

"By removing the burden of acquisition debt, this offer allows us to focus on investment in the team. I am only disappointed that the owners have tried everything to prevent the deal from happening and that we need to go through legal proceedings in order to complete the sale."

Could be same shit different owners. Could well be the sort of owners were after (no debt on club, self funding, etc.). Could be even worse. No idea yet but at least Hicks is out.

Cautious optimism, they can't be any worse than H&G and there reputation amongst red sox fans seems very good. Hopefully it goes through before the chumps can mount any legal battle.

Is there a proposed timescale for this as it seems like its all dependant on the legal dispute i.e. its far from done and dusted

Legal battle should hopefully be nothing more than a side show. Fact is both Hicks and Gillett signed over control to the board and they have made the call on the sale. They'd have to prove the board didnt act in the best interests - but that can be done post sale.

The loans are due on 15th Oct, with a further £60m penalty due then if they arent repaid - so theyd be hard pressed to prove it.

As I understand it....

The offer has been accepted, the important timescales are:

- NESV getting clearance from the league
- The loan deadline date (which is some time in the next week/ten days).

H&G have had refinancing (against the clubs assets) blocked by the board, they then tried to sack the board when they were accepting the NESV offer which they failed to do. They will try and launch a legal battle to stop the sale going through. If the legal battle isn't up and running by the time the loan is due to be called in then RBS should/might/could call the loan in and let the sale proceed anyway.

This.

The main point they will try to prove is that we have sold the club for less than it's worth, therefore they aren't realising any profits from the last 4/5 years of 'hard work' which is nonesense. The sheer fact the £60m penalty would have been incurred demonstrates a level of instability and therefore casts serious doubts of the value H&G put on the club.

Theyd also have to prove that another (serious and had the cash) buyer was out there willing to offer more than was accepted.
