Pondering selling one of the bikes and having a car to go to work in the winter. After 10 years riding in the icy cold (and snow) during winter, I think I deserve a heater and stereo.

Im looking at cheap cars, I think i'd get about £2k for the Bandit, so say max of £2500 ish really.

Now im pondering cheap to run cars, and it seems its actually quite hard to find a clear cut cheap car. A tiny engine needs more revving, which uses more fuel, so is it better to get a 1.3/1.4, or stick to a gutless 1.0 (or below)...

I pondered a Smart Car. Gay, small, fannymobiles, but claims of 60+mpg, and the fact I could also keep it in the garage along with the other car, and my other bike. But heard some bad stories about servicing and reliabilty (well it IS a Merc after all ).

So really, whats about? I can't stand 106's and such, and I really hate the whiney 1.2 engines in corsas. Toyota Gaygos? Shall I get a Gee Wiz (NO!!).

Finding a cheap car, thats not epically gay, reliable, and cheap to run isn't all that easy?

That leads me to think, really, what is the best cheap reliable car out there anyway?

Bandit only returns 40-50mpg, service every 4k, tyres every 3-4k, jackets, waterproofs, new helmets, boots etc, it all starts to add up. The way I see it, i could have a car, and use my nice bike for nice days to work, and only need to buy nice bike gear instead of gear I actually really need (I.E new leather jacket over new textile waterproof jacket).

Hit me with some ideas to ponder.

PS, I don't really like most french cars, and the ones I do like arn't what I need (Clio Sports, Megan Sports etc )

to a little 1.2 B that will do double that for 44 squid.

TBH, I'd rather take a bike and get cold than crawl around in a 1 litre shitbox.

Just me though maybe

Low 40 mpg though from what i've been reading. Was in the choice list though, but finding one for that cheap without sky miles is hard.

Yaris is also on the list, but need to look more into those. Being a Toyota it should last forever.

Do it for 10 years though and you might change your mind a little . Night time riding, salt covered roads, along a road that has a cement factory, putting on lots of layers to get warm. Have to rinse off the bike every night to stop it corroding, tightening the chain etc every few days. Add it all up together and its making a harder life really.

Plus i've worked out my trip now takes the same amount of time in total, including kitting up for the bike etc. Car doesn't go through traffic, but then I don spend 5 min kitting up, i'd be straight in the car.
