Am I right in thinking that the ECU can be reset without actually disconecting the battery?

The reason that I am asking is that I have a Toad AI606 alarm on the car and didnt want to risk buggering it up by cutting off the power.

Any help welcome.

Just Unplug the ECU itself and leave it overnite. Its located behind the OS Kick Panel, theres just two plugs into it.
In the Morning Plug it back in and leave the car on idle for ten mins.

i have a 1.4 16v econtec engine...to reset the ecu i heard u disconnect the battery for at least 1 hour...then reconnect it, and start the car, making sure u dont touch the accelerator pedle for the 1st 10seconds....and it should cough and splutter and then smooth itself out...

but iv also heard that that only works for th vauxhall 8v engines. is this true?

cheers,
james

yeah but if u reset the ECU, the codes are still gonna be there coz the ECU will pick them up - better off taking it 2 vauxhall m8

lol disconnecting ur ECU wont cure ur car!

when u re-connect it it will still read the same faults cos u havent done anything to get rid of them

u can find out what the problems are with 2 ways:

take it to vaux

or

theirs a guide somewhere on how to get the codes from the ecu, then compare the codes with the list that tells u whats wrong, not sure where the list is tho
