getting high revving and an eml when idling
was told to blank off the egr, tried that no change
was told to clean the egr, sprayed carb cleaner in it and gave it a quick rub but still getting the problems
how am i supposed to clean it?
or will i need a new one?

Strip off the stuff round about it, spray carb cleaner on it and clean round the butterfly valve, should be choked up with brown/black gunk

Could be the idle air control valve too

eml says egr mate
ive done a paper clip test
is the butter fly on the block or actually on the egr as i didnt see one when the valve was off

Oh and when you sprayed carb cleaner in before did you have someone else revving the car at the same time?

Give this a bash:
Open the airbox and spray carb cleaner up the hole while someone revs it

gave that a bash but i revved it whilst spraying
no change
warren g's tutorial shows the blanking plate on the inlet and the egr just left sitting
tried that and it revved
blanked the egr and left the inlet open
idled well but sounded like a v8 when driving.
then when stopped at lights started to rev
might have to bite the bullet and get a new egr
